A Proofpoint Case Study
The City College of New York (CCNY) needed to dramatically improve email security and reduce the heavy IT overhead caused by an appliance-based solution that slowed inbound mail and required constant maintenance. The college sought a virtual, easy-to-administer system to proactively stop phishing, spam, viruses and other threats for its roughly 3,700 student and staff mailboxes.
CCNY deployed Proofpoint Enterprise Protection in a virtual environment after a test pilot, using MLX-powered phishing detection, anti-spam filtering, quarantines with self-service digests, and centralized reporting. The move cut annual IT costs by an estimated 30–40%, reduced administrative effort, kept inboxes free of unwanted messages, and provided stronger, more scalable protection along with encryption and archiving capabilities.
