SA Power Networks Stops Threats and Forges Stronger Security Culture With Proofpoint

SA Power Networks, which supplies electricity to more than 1.7 million customers across South Australia and employs over 2,000 people, needed to strengthen email security to protect critical grid infrastructure. With limited resources and an estimated 70–80% of threats originating from phishing, the utility sought an automated solution that would stop advanced attacks, reduce manual incident handling, and build a proactive security culture while meeting regulatory requirements.

The company deployed Proofpoint Email Protection, Targeted Attack Protection, Threat Response Auto‑Pull, and Security Awareness to automate detection, removal and user reporting of malicious emails and to deliver tailored training. The results included a drop in daily emails needing analyst intervention from about 20–30 to fewer than 10, an 80% reduction in employees entering passwords in phishing exercises, 3,758 suspicious emails reported last year (3,602 confirmed malicious), and improved compliance visibility and faster incident response.
