Outbrain, a global content-discovery platform with 18 offices and more than 290 billion monthly discoveries, needed simplified, secure remote access after an acquisition increased its non-technical staff. Its legacy VPN required client installs, site-specific connections, and constant IT intervention, creating setup failures, a complex mesh of site-to-site VPNs, and slow onboarding for marketing, sales and HR hires.

Outbrain implemented Proofpoint Meta, mapping internal resources and creating a three-tier role model (developers with full access, business users agentless, contractors restricted), starting with clientless onboarding for business teams and then migrating developers off legacy VPNs. The migration delivered a single access method across sites, faster performance via global POPs, simplified cloud-based onboarding and central policy management, and stronger Zero Trust security with adaptive controls and micro-segmented, need-to-know access.
