Proofpoint Helps Nonprofit Health System Strengthen Its Overall Email Security Posture

One of the largest nonprofit health systems in the U.S.—serving millions through more than 1,000 care facilities—needed to strengthen protection for its sensitive communications after a merger. The organization faced increasing business email compromise (BEC) and brand-abuse risks, required consolidation of email authentication across more than 1,000 domains, and needed to support a migration from on-premises Exchange to a cloud email platform.

The health system deployed Proofpoint Email Fraud Defense and Proofpoint Secure Email Relay, inventoried and validated domains, aligned SPF/DKIM, implemented DMARC with consultant guidance, and used hosted SPF to close vulnerabilities. The combined solution enabled the cloud migration and centralized control while stopping over 1.2 million email threats (30% of inbound traffic), detecting nearly 460 advanced targeted threats, and catching about 45,000 threats through deep content analysis.
