A Proofpoint Case Study
The New Zealand Ministry of Education, responsible for a nationwide system of more than 900,000 students and staff and roughly 3,500 separate Google and Microsoft tenancies, needed a standardized, low-cost way to protect students and faculty from growing email threats while preserving local school autonomy. With limited visibility into attacks and evidence of compromised mailboxes being used for wider phishing campaigns, the Ministry sought a centralized solution that could work across diverse school environments.
They chose Proofpoint Email Protection and Targeted Attack Protection, delivered through Network for Learning (N4L), enabling a fast, cost‑effective rollout that had 60% school adoption within nine months. The platform now processes 80–100 million messages a month, removes about 80,000–100,000 advanced threats via detonation and advanced scanning, improves threat visibility and SOC integration, and frees schools to focus on education rather than email security.
