A Proofpoint Case Study
Wright State University, a public campus near Dayton serving more than 18,000 students, struggled to secure communications for a highly transient community—2,000–4,000 new student email accounts each semester—and more than 10,000 mailboxes. With a small IT staff, the university faced overwhelming volumes of credential-phishing, malware, ransomware and spoofed messages that put library and OhioLINK resources at risk and consumed hours of staff time for incident response and machine reimaging.
Wright State deployed Proofpoint Email Protection and Proofpoint Targeted Attack Protection, quickly activating a proof-of-concept and placing the solution in the email flow ahead of Office 365. The tools dramatically reduced spam, improved detection of malicious attachments and URLs, delivered near-real-time threat intelligence for proactive incident response, and freed IT staff to focus on other projects—strengthening the university’s overall security posture.
