Health System Puts Faith in Proofpoint

Sisters of Charity Health System, a faith-based provider serving Ohio and South Carolina with 4,600 employees and hospitals including St. Vincent Charity and Mercy Medical Center, faced a surge in sophisticated email threats—spoofing, phishing, malicious attachments and URLs—that their legacy email defenses couldn’t detect quickly. Frequent user reports and cumbersome management left the IT team overwhelmed and increased risk to patient and financial data.

After a 30-day proof of concept, Sisters of Charity deployed Proofpoint Email Protection, Targeted Attack Protection (TAP) with URL and Attachment Defense, and Proofpoint Information Archive. TAP flagged more than 11,000 malicious attachments in 21 days (about 5,000 containing ransomware), immediately stopped thousands of threats, cut email-related support calls from over 20 per month to fewer than three, improved real-time threat visibility, and freed IT staff to focus on strategic projects.
