Westinghouse Electric Corporation, a global engineering company with 29,000 mailboxes across 30 countries, relied heavily on email but faced escalating threats—phishing, business email compromise, malicious URLs and malware—and limitations with a legacy McAfee solution that missed many attacks while blocking legitimate senders, forcing extensive manual safe-listing.

Westinghouse deployed Proofpoint Email Protection and Proofpoint Targeted Attack Protection (URL and Attachment Defense) with Proofpoint Professional Services, completing cutover in under four weeks. The result was markedly better detection and fewer false blocks: phishing catches jumped from 23 to 800 in two weeks, 100% of emails to invalid addresses were stopped (over 200,000 in two weeks), the safe list fell from 220 to 6, incidents and investigation requests dropped sharply, and TAP’s data integrated with ArcSight to streamline response—freeing teams for strategic work.
