City of Melville Safeguards Email and Resident Services With Proofpoint

The City of Melville, a Perth local government serving more than 100,000 residents and supporting over 700 staff, faced rising phishing and malware attacks (including Dridex) that targeted councillors and administrators and put sensitive operations and data at risk. Its existing email protection was slow to respond—sometimes taking up to 24 hours to assess threats—so the city needed a scalable, faster solution and a global partner to keep pace with evolving attacks.

Working with Lumen IT, the city deployed Proofpoint Email Protection, Targeted Attack Protection (TAP), Threat Response, Security Awareness Training and Professional Services. The solution dramatically reduced malicious email delivery—a quarterly scan of 1.4 million inbound messages found 1.1 million sender-based threats, 55,000 content threats and about 2,000 targeted threats stopped—and TAP now delivers 98.9% protection (100% for attachments and imposters). The result: less spam and phishing noise, faster incident response, clearer reporting for administrators, and meaningful time savings for the small IT team.
