A Proofpoint Case Study
The City of Norwalk, a Connecticut municipality of about 89,000 residents with roughly 750 employees, struggled with an aging Cisco VPN that was hard to manage and no longer supported. Remote employees and contractors faced poor performance and cross‑platform compatibility issues, while IT and security teams lacked visibility and granular control, increasing the attack surface and hampering delivery of citizen services.
The city deployed Proofpoint Meta’s cloud‑native, zero‑trust platform to provide a global backbone and high‑performance connectivity. A lightweight MetaPort VM and simple onboarding let IT implement identity‑based micro‑segmentation across its dual datacenter infrastructure, simplifying management, eliminating the need for a VPN agent, and giving users secure, reliable access only to the resources they need.
