Bologna Airport Chooses People-Centric Proofpoint Security Awareness Training

Bologna’s Guglielmo Marconi Airport, a major regional hub handling over 9 million passengers a year and employing about 540 people, needed to strengthen cyber protection, satisfy tightening regulatory and compliance obligations, and make cybersecurity an organization-wide process. Challenges included reaching staff who work with mobile or shared tools rather than fixed workstations and embedding cybersecurity behaviors across operational teams as well as IT.

The airport chose Proofpoint Security Awareness Training for its ease of use, customization and hands‑on implementation support, rolling out a modular program with simulated phishing, knowledge assessments and classroom sessions. The platform was deployed to all 540 employees, improving phishing reporting from an initial 50% to 70% after the first training phase (with a target of 80% positive results across 90% of staff), enabling ongoing ad‑hoc tests, certificate-based incentives, and a measurable rise in cybersecurity awareness and defensive behavior.
