Sony launches smart bike parking surveillance in 24h with Promwad

The customer Sony, in collaboration with a French startup, faced the challenge of creating a proof-of-concept for its new Spresense AI platform. The goal was to develop a smart bike parking system that could automatically detect available spaces and react to motion. Sony engaged the vendor Promwad to build this system, which required a compact hardware design and a software solution capable of operating within the board's severe memory and computational constraints.

Promwad developed a solution using a Mobilenet neural network deployed with TensorFlow Lite Micro for object detection on the Spresense board. To overcome dataset limitations, the team generated a synthetic dataset using Blender. The resulting system, which included custom connectivity software and hardware peripherals, was successfully installed as a test device in Nantes, France. Promwad delivered a unique, market-leading solution for Sony that can also be adapted for other remote tracking applications.
