SmartLabs LLC, a provider of software solutions for interactive TV, wanted to diversify vertically and build its own set-top box instead of relying on equipment manufacturers. They partnered with Promwad, a technology company with DTV and broadcasting experience, to help create an IPTV hardware platform from the ground up.

Promwad delivered a turnkey solution that included hardware design, Linux-based software development, enclosure and mechanical design, support for MPEG-2/4 and 3D/HD video, license coverage for proprietary codecs, and mass production support. The result was a working prototype in 4 months and production volumes of tens of thousands of units within 10 months, helping SmartLabs secure a $50 million contract and deploy IPTV devices and software for two million subscribers.
