S-Terra CSP - Customer Case Study

S-Terra CSP, a Russian developer and manufacturer of network security solutions, needed a custom bootable medium for its SPDS-USB-01 trusted computing module. The device had to combine smart card access, USB mass storage, password-based access control, and the ability to boot IBM PC-compatible computers, while matching the speed of mainstream flash drives. Vendor Promwad was brought in to design the hardware and software, including a Linux USB CCID API library and initialization/testing tools.

Promwad developed the SPDS-USB-01 on an ARM Cortex-M3 platform using Atmel’s AT91LIB, with software modules for USB CCID, USB MSD, and login-based access control. It also delivered a startup and post-production software package for password creation, rights management, and OS image writing. The result was a secure, bootable device that enabled trusted sessions with two-factor authentication and cryptographic protection, and the solution was certified for use in FSTEC of Russia and the Federal Security Service of Russia systems.
