Locus - Customer Case Study

Locus, a leader in the antenna and terrestrial TV equipment market, needed a low-cost, minimal-form-factor digital set-top box for receiving and decoding DVB-T terrestrial digital broadcasts and outputting video to a TV receiver. Promwad was engaged to help design the device and its Linux-based software, including support for a composite RCA output, USB updates, remote-control operation, and features like EPG, channel editing, favorites, and multimedia playback.

Promwad implemented the solution using STMicroelectronics chips, centered on the STi5205 processor and STV0362 demodulator, with an Earda tuner, NAND Flash, DDR2 memory, and a four-layer PCB optimized for cost and signal integrity. Promwad also developed the Linux/STAPI software and Qt-based GUI, completed prototype debugging and certification testing, and delivered a compact, low-prime-cost product in 6 months using 180 man-days.
