A Promwad Case Study
Incyma, a Swiss smart home automation company, needed a device to control home multimedia systems such as home theatres, tuners, and video recorders over HDMI via Ethernet, while being quick to configure and easy to integrate into smart home setups. Promwad developed the solution using an HDMI CEC-based controller, combining embedded hardware and software to enable network-based control of consumer electronics.
Promwad built the prototype around a low-power LM3S6965 Cortex-M3 microcontroller with Ethernet, HDMI passthrough, serial interfaces, and a compact four-chip design, then added software based on the uIP stack with HTTP, Telnet, SNTP, DHCP, NetBIOS, and mDNS support. Promwad also integrated a Lua interpreter for scripting automation scenarios and supported firmware updates via web forms, resulting in a flexible, easily configurable controller that expanded automation capabilities and simplified device management, though no specific numeric performance metrics were provided.
