European Telecommunications Company needed to integrate its multicast DVB server with hardware transcoder PCI-e boards so it could stream DVB-S/S2 and DVB-C signals over IP networks. The target platform was the Advantech DSPC-8681 PCI-e board, and the challenge was to transcode multiple MPEG2-TS streams into H.264 while supporting configurable video stream filtering.

Promwad continued the customer’s ongoing embedded software effort, fixed bugs in the existing multicast DVB server based on ffmpeg, and implemented filtering and deinterlacing functionality. Promwad also created a simple deinterlacing filter, ported a YADIF-based filter to the TMS320C6678 DSP, and optimized the solution for parallel processing across four DSP cores. As a result, the customer delivered the DVB server software and appliances on time with the required functionality.
