European Industrial Battery Manufacturer builds a dual-MCU BMU platform in 24h with Promwad

Promwad partnered with a European industrial battery manufacturer that needed to replace a bulky and expensive industrial PC in their railway Battery Management Unit (BMU). The challenge was to create a new, integrated hardware platform that could meet strict SIL2 functional safety certification according to railway standards while also complying with demanding environmental requirements.

The solution was a scalable, single-board BMU architecture built on a dual-MCU design using NXP S32K37xx and S32K1xx processors, separating main control from independent safety monitoring. Promwad delivered the complete hardware design, firmware migration plan, and a clear SIL2 certification pathway. This eliminated the external industrial PC, reduced component costs and development time, and provided a reusable platform for the client's safety-critical applications.
