Compass Electronics Company - Customer Case Study

Compass Electronics Company, a research and production electronics manufacturer, needed to upgrade an electric traction drive controller platform originally developed over ten years ago. They wanted to preserve the existing functionality and minimize software changes while moving to modern, available components. Promwad supported the hardware redesign for this transportation electronics application.

Promwad redesigned the controller’s circuit and PCB into a single-board CPU solution, replacing obsolete parts such as the dual-channel memory and upgrading the DC/DC converter, decoupling, and passive component layout while keeping the key DSP processors unchanged. The result was a 4-layer 160 x 100 mm board with 380 components, 1,694 solder points, and 1,334 circuits that maintained compatibility with existing equipment, preserved the original size and mounting points, and enabled production using current off-the-shelf electronic components.
