The customer, a European manufacturer of SDR-based devices, faced a complex embedded challenge. They required hardware design and software development to interface the MCP37D21-80 ADC directly with a USB 3.0-enabled MCU using FTDI FIFO bridges and an FPGA, all while ensuring a minimum of 65 user I/Os and reducing development costs. They engaged the vendor, Promwad, to solve this.

Promwad's engineering team selected an iCE40 family FPGA and developed Linux drivers to control the ADC and output IQ data compatible with GNU Radio. By leveraging tools like PADs VX and starting development with dedicated kits, they provided a cost-effective and efficient solution. The result was a fully integrated platform that delivered the required high-speed USB 3.0 data streaming and enhanced I/O capabilities for the client's SDR devices.
