Concordia University - Customer Case Study

Concordia University's Département d’études françaises sought a practical tool to help students learn the principles of machine translation and computer-aided translation tools. To meet this educational challenge, the university chose to integrate translation solutions from the vendor PROMT into its curriculum.

PROMT provided its translation software, including the Dictionary Manager and Term Manager Lite, which enabled students to apply theoretical knowledge by working on concrete projects. The solution allowed students to analyze and improve machine translation output through dictionary coding and preprocessing, giving them valuable hands-on experience. As a result, over 90% of students found the system's basics and customization options to be new and insightful, with nearly all praising its user-friendly interface. The course successfully changed student perspectives on MT, with some even considering its use for professional translation.
