New LIMS improves efficiency for City of Portland

The City of Portland Water Pollution Control Laboratory, part of the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, needed a better way to manage growing analytical and operational complexity. Its outdated LIMS was difficult to use, lacked reporting flexibility, required extensive manual data entry, and couldn’t keep up with evolving regulatory and certification demands. To address these challenges, the lab turned to Promium and its Element LIMS product.

Promium implemented Element LIMS, an environmental lab-focused system that streamlined sample login, analysis, QC management, and reporting. The new platform eliminated much of the manual data entry, reduced calculations and errors, improved traceability for NELAC certification, and expanded access across the lab. As a result, the City of Portland improved productivity and quality, with tasks that once took 15 minutes for two samples now handled for an entire run of about 35 samples in the same time frame.
