The state's Department of Revenue sought to modernize its tax filing system to comply with the IRS's Modernized e-File initiative. The department faced challenges with the IRS's highly complex, non-standard web services and needed a scalable solution to securely process millions of electronic tax returns, moving away from a manual, paper-based legacy system. To address this, they partnered with Prolifics for a solution utilizing IBM WebSphere DataPower.

Prolifics implemented IBM WebSphere DataPower to securely handle the IRS data payloads, offloading the processing from the mainframe. The solution provided a massive increase in scalability, jumping from one transaction per minute to 15,000 per minute. This resulted in faster processing for taxpayers, improved infrastructure efficiency, and enhanced security and compliance for the department.
