A Prolifics Case Study
Major Retailing Company, a major automotive retailer with nearly 600 stores and service centers across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, needed to replace a legacy mainframe character-mode point-of-sale system that touched many disparate merchandise, catalog, and sales audit systems. It wanted a more flexible, low-risk way to better control inventory and expenses while improving customer service and integrating with its existing legacy environment. Prolifics was brought in to help deliver the new solution.
Prolifics implemented a service-oriented architecture using IBM WebSphere, WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation, Process Choreographer, and a Java Connector Architecture (JCA) foundation to connect backend systems. The new Java Point-of-Sale client and web services-based architecture improved store productivity, enabled better sourcing from stores, warehouses, and business partners, and simplified integration across systems. The result was a componentized, scalable, standards-based platform that improved inventory control, customer service, and revenue through a more effective trading network.
