University of Leicester scales accommodation bookings to 3x concurrency with Prolifics Testing

The University of Leicester required performance testing for its student accommodation booking system to ensure it could handle the peak load on A Level results day, following problems experienced the previous year. The vendor, Prolifics Testing, was engaged to develop and execute a performance testing plan using the JMeter framework and cloud injectors via Amazon Web Services.

Prolifics Testing identified critical issues, including a problem where three web server sessions were being created per user and database locking during soak tests. A patch was developed by the system vendor to resolve these problems. After retesting, Prolifics Testing confirmed the patched system could successfully handle the anticipated peak concurrent user load, giving the university confidence for a successful go-live.
