A ProLeiT Case Study
The customer, LyondellBasell (formerly operating as Basell Polyolefine GmbH), faced a complex logistics challenge at its Wesseling plant. The intricate network for transporting polyethylene granules had over 20,000 potential paths, which were inefficient and required manual intervention, separating internal and external logistics. The company sought to modernize and decentralize this system, enabling staff to control the flow without programming equipment for changes. They commissioned ProLeiT to provide an automation solution.
ProLeiT implemented its process control system, utilizing a new module called ProLeiT TF-FL (Technological Functions – Transport Logistics) based on a patented "dynamically distributed step sequence." This object-oriented solution allowed all system components to be parameterized directly using standard software, eliminating the need for programming. The results included a rationalized material flow, shortened paths, and the removal of unnecessary transport stages. This increased plant efficiency and allowed for commissioning with only a brief production shutdown.
