KWS SAAT SE, a global seed producer, faced the challenge of automating its new mobile beet harvesting and analysis machine, the PUMA III, which required a unique 24-volt control system for operation in the field. The company partnered with automation specialist ProLeiT, leveraging their long-standing relationship, to implement a robust process control system that could reliably collect and transmit data from trial plots in Northern France.

ProLeiT designed a fail-safe system powered by a car battery, utilizing redundant laptops and a continuous USB backup to prevent data loss. Their solution included specialized software for process control and a block plan add-in to accurately track and assign harvested beets to their original plots. This provided operators with complete real-time oversight and significantly accelerated the data analysis process. The project was completed on schedule, and ProLeiT's work enabled KWS to analyze beet quality directly in the field, delivering crucial breeding data to scientists several days faster than previous methods.
