Case Study: Wacken Open Air achieves seamless planning and execution of its 75,000‑attendee heavy metal festival with Planview Projectplace

A Planview ProjectPlace Case Study

Preview of the Wacken Case Study

Projectplace is indispensible to the world's largest heavy metal festival

Wacken Open Air (Wacken) is the world's most famous heavy metal festival, drawing about 75,000 visitors and hosting more than 120 international bands in a village of 2,000. To manage that scale and replace an untenable Excel-based process, event agency ICS Festival Service GmbH adopted the Projectplace collaboration tool from Planview ProjectPlace to plan and organize the three-day event.

Planview ProjectPlace’s Projectplace is used by a 100-member international core team for file sharing, access control, meeting bookings and cross-team communication, enabling smooth coordination of crews such as sound and lighting. The vendor’s solution made planning for 75,000 attendees and 120+ bands feasible, is called “vital as their cell phone” by the Chief Stage Manager, and has helped Wacken maintain operational efficiency and its global reputation.
