Yamaha Motor Europe, the European headquarters of Yamaha Motor Company, needed to fix serious database access performance issues after redesigning its dealer website and moving to Apache Tomcat on a virtualized environment. The operational site connects 1,500 dealers across 12 countries for spare parts, warranties, and claims, so slow page loads and crashes threatened a critical customer experience.
Progress Software replaced the default Microsoft SQL Server drivers with Progress DataDirect JDBC drivers. With help from the Progress support team, Yamaha achieved a 20X improvement in database access performance and a 10X improvement in page load time, with pages loading in about four to five seconds and the site becoming stable again across 12 languages.
