UZ Leuven, one of Belgium’s largest and most respected hospitals, needed to migrate 200 applications and a core electronic patient record system from Sybase to DB2 without disrupting patient care or downtime. The challenge was especially critical because the same database supported essential hospital data across multiple facilities, and any interruption could affect operations and care quality.

Progress Software provided Progress DataDirect OpenAccess to create a database emulation layer that let UZ Leuven preconfigure, test, and switch each application to DB2 without taking it offline.
