A Progress Software Case Study
Toa Re, Japan’s primary professional reinsurer, needed to speed up and improve the accuracy of facultative reinsurance underwriting while easing the heavy workload on its underwriters. The company turned to Progress Software and its Progress Corticon business rules engine to automate assessment rules for underwriting decisions, especially as competitors were also moving toward automation.
Progress Software implemented an automated underwriting system with Progress Corticon in about 10 months. The solution enabled Toa Re to register rules for 290 diseases and allowed staff without expert underwriting knowledge to complete assessments, reducing underwriter workload, improving efficiency and consistency, and freeing experienced underwriters to focus on higher-value tasks such as customer seminars.
