Educators Resource Expands Use of Progress to Migrate from Oracle to SQL

Educators Resource, North America’s leading wholesale distributor of K-8 supplemental teaching materials, needed to replace slow, unreliable client-supplied SQL connectors after moving from UNIX to Windows Server 2012 with Microsoft SQL Server 2012. The company turned to Progress Software and its DataDirect connectors to restore performance and support its order management, warehouse management, and accounting systems.

Progress Software implemented DataDirect SQL Server ODBC connectors across 50 workstations in just one day, enabling fast ODBC connections to the new SQL environment. The results were dramatic: screen refresh times improved by 80–90%, one key purchasing screen dropped from up to six minutes to 1–6 seconds, and a shipping/tracking report fell from about 45 minutes to roughly one minute. Educators Resource also estimated it saved 12 months of development time and about $25K per year in labor and frustration.
