A Progress Software Case Study
Core Computer Group, working on the TRIPS project for the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, needed an efficient, open-standard way to deliver high-volume car crash data from a 500 GB Oracle database to researchers, insurers, manufacturers, and the public. Their challenge was replacing flat files and proprietary formats with XML while keeping the system fast, compliant, and manageable.
Progress Software implemented Progress® DataDirect® XQuery® to transform relational data into validated XML and support XML-to-XML processing. The solution reduced the architecture to a single Java class and seven XQueries, cutting code complexity and maintenance effort while improving performance and scalability. Core Computer Group reported that large XML extractions for dataset building took significantly less time, and that Progress Software’s XQuery implementation delivered excellent stability and performance.
