Composites One, the largest North American distributor of composite materials, needed to modernize its long-running enterprise and e-commerce applications while preserving years of investment in its systems. Using Progress Software’s OpenEdge platform, the company sought to replace character-based interfaces with more user-friendly browser-based experiences to simplify online ordering, improve productivity, and support a complex distribution operation.
Progress Software implemented a phased modernization approach with OpenEdge, including the OpenEdge Application Server and WebSpeed Transaction Server, allowing Composites One to reuse business logic while moving to web interfaces. The results included faster, easier self-service for customers, more efficient internal workflows, and strong usage growth: over 100,000 online information requests per month and more than 7,000 active web portal users representing over 80% of revenue.
