COINS, a global leader in enterprise software for the construction industry, needed a better way to share Progress OpenEdge application data with third-party BI tools. Its challenge was exposing transactional data in a form that included business logic and security, rather than raw database tables, so customers could do more flexible reporting and analysis.

Using Progress Software’s DataDirect OpenAccess and OpenEdge, COINS built a semantic layer on top of its application to provide secure, flexible data connectivity for BI tools. The solution eliminated the need for heavy custom coding or a separate data warehouse, enabled reusable queries and built-in security, and improved customer insight with fine-grained analytics using the BI tool of their choice.
