Centrica, through British Gas Business, needed to replace legacy pricing systems that were limiting growth and slowing a complex, manual quotation process. The company required a real-time, high-performance way to access data across Oracle and SQL Server environments so sales teams could generate customer pricing offers quickly and accurately. Progress Software’s Progress® DataDirect Connect® for Oracle was chosen to meet these connectivity and automation needs.
Progress Software implemented a standards-based ODBC connectivity solution that linked the pricing application to billing and other systems behind the scenes. This automated labor-intensive manual steps, enabled direct real-time data access from the UNIX-based Oracle environment to SQL Server, and supported faster quote generation and forecasting. Centrica reported that the solution met its high-performance requirements and helped streamline pricing operations by removing the need for several personnel in the process.
