A Progress Case Study
The University of North Georgia, a five-campus institution serving nearly 20,000 students, faced a major compliance challenge when Georgia introduced new IT auditing laws. IT staff had to manually inventory and audit more than 500 servers—an error-prone, weeks-long process using custom VBScript tools that disrupted campus services and strained the team.
UNG implemented Progress WhatsUp Gold to automate discovery, inventory and audits; its SmartScan produced consolidated lists of IPs, system names, OS versions, CPU, memory and disk and synced results to SharePoint. Real-time monitoring (with Google Maps location for data centers), faster two-minute reports, and reduced manual work saved significant time, improved outage response, and earned the team statewide recognition at the InteractUSG conference.
