The City of Guelph Secures Employee File Transfers – and Saves Money – with MOVEit

The City of Guelph, a mid-sized Ontario municipality with about 2,000 employees across City Hall and 40 satellite offices, needed to secure confidential file transfers and comply with MFIPPA, PHIPA and PCI rules. Although it had used WS_FTP since 2007, growing ad hoc file sharing led staff to use consumer file‑sharing sites and large email attachments (up to 20 MB), creating compliance gaps, lack of visibility into transfers, and strain on email systems.

Guelph implemented MOVEit Secure Email Attachments (with MOVEit File Transfer on‑premise) to provide end‑to‑end encrypted transfers via Outlook or a browser, centralized policy controls, and easy deployment via MSI/AD. The switch delivered rapid user adoption, improved visibility and control, reduced email storage burden, meaningful IT time savings, positive user feedback, and expected storage cost reductions while eliminating insecure third‑party transfers.
