PCI, a Riverside, California–based manufacturer of ruggedized onsite oxygen and nitrogen generators serving military, medical, water/wastewater, industrial and oil & gas markets since 1984, inherited a network “fraught with errors” when IT manager George Hicks joined. He found misconfigured services, outdated systems, and a mix of physical servers and a few VMware DR systems that required proactive monitoring to reduce downtime and simplify management.
After evaluating SolarWinds, Symantec and Microsoft, PCI chose Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold for its easy-to-use interface, straightforward configuration and professional how-to videos. Hicks deployed WhatsUp Gold with email alerts and the Virtual plug-in, overhauled network hardware to Cisco switches and moved servers to VMware with Dell EqualLogic storage, and now monitors physical and virtual systems, Windows services and resource utilization—eliminating weekend surprises and saving staff time.
