A Progress Case Study
Nordea Bank, the largest financial institution in the Nordic and Baltic region with around 10 million customers and 1,400 branches, faced a growing IT challenge after a series of mergers. Its New European Markets (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Russia) had a fragmented monitoring landscape—SolarWinds, MRTG, outdated SNMPc, and separate syslog collectors—covering more than 1,500 devices used by 4,500 employees, making centralized and efficient network management essential.
Nordea deployed two copies of Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold to provide unified active, passive and statistical monitoring across four countries, implemented in about 400 work hours. The solution consolidated monitoring into centers in Poland and Latvia, delivering SMS and email alerts, graphical maps and customized monitors. The result was faster problem detection and resolution, lower long-term costs and a fully featured international monitoring capability that met the bank’s needs.
