NHS Wales, which supports 65,000 staff across hospitals, GP surgeries and other care sites, needed a secure managed file transfer solution to protect patient confidentiality and meet ICO and ISO 27001 data‑protection requirements. The organisation struggled to safely share large or sensitive files, control and audit data movement across sites and with external partners, and to provide visibility and reporting to demonstrate regulatory compliance.

NHS Wales implemented Progress MOVEit Transfer to encrypt and centrally manage files at rest and in transit, support large transfers, simplify mailbox configurations, and provide detailed audit trails and reporting. The platform is now used by around 2,000 third‑party users across health boards, social services and external partners, delivering stronger compliance, greater operational confidence and faster, more secure information sharing.
