Network Monitoring Tools Help Mining Museum Wow Visitors

Deutsche Bergbau‑Museum in Bochum, Germany — one of the world’s leading mining museums — undertook a multimedia redesign with video walls, information terminals and a mining-shaft simulator. Supporting those displays and the museum’s 20 servers and ~200 staff PCs fell to a two‑person IT team, creating a need for automated, easy‑to‑use network monitoring to ensure multimedia systems are ready when the museum opens.

The museum deployed Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold to monitor all IP devices via SNMP, displaying status on dashboard panels and issuing configurable alerts for threshold breaches. The solution delivered quick, cost‑effective visibility and early warnings, enabling morning checks, faster escalation of issues, reduced reactive firefighting and plans to expand monitoring to additional multimedia applications.
