Guardian General Insures RPG Modernization Success with Profound Logic

Guardian General, a long-time IBM i user, needed to modernize its core administration system, which had been running since the 1990s and supported more than 650 business users across 17 countries. The outdated 5250 green-screen interface made training harder, limited remote access, and made it difficult to recruit RPG developers, prompting the company to seek modernization help from Profound Logic.

Profound Logic implemented a phased modernization approach using Genie for web-enabling 5250 applications and Profound UI for moving RPG applications to a modern browser-based interface, later integrating Atrium, RPGsp, and other tools. Guardian General rebranded the system as WebSTAR, cut ties to 5250 within months, improved usability with features like tab panels, graphs, maps, and notes, and reduced new-employee training time by at least 20% while making technical hiring easier.
