Baker College futurizes 1 million+ lines of RPG code with Profound Logic

Baker College, an educational institution in Michigan, faced the challenge of outdated green-screen applications running on its IBM i platform, which reduced the platform's perceived value. With over a million lines of legacy RPG code supporting more than 1,300 menu items, the IT department, led by Mike Andritsis, needed to prove they could create a modern, web-based portal without abandoning their reliable IBM i system. To address this, they turned to the vendor Profound Logic.

Profound Logic provided its Profound UI tool, a component of the Profound AppDev suite, to futurize the applications. The solution leveraged IBM's RPG Open Access to convert the code into rich web interfaces without restructuring it. The vendor also assisted with mass conversion services and a parallel rollout for testing. The result was a highly successful project that was well-received by nearly 2,000 end-users, who appreciated the modern interface. Profound Logic enabled Baker College to preserve its platform investment, meet its deadlines, and create a foundation for future enhancements.
