La Jolla Institute for Immunology, a nonprofit research organization of more than 450 staff focused on immunology, faced growing cybersecurity risk as sensitive research and data accumulated but had only a small internal IT team and limited security tools. Unable to fund a full in-house security program or 24/7 coverage, LJI turned to Proficio and its managed detection and response offering (ProSOC monitoring and threat detection) to fill the gap.
Proficio deployed ProSOC, helped configure LJI’s systems, and tuned alerts so the in-house team receives only relevant, actionable notifications with 24/7 access to security experts. As a result, Proficio reduced alert fatigue, acted as an extension of LJI’s team, and—critically—detected Log4J activity that allowed LJI to patch affected systems quickly and avoid any data breach (“Nothing was breached, everything is patched”), demonstrating measurable improvement in detection and response.
