Lurie Children’s faced fragmented, slow communication between referring physicians and hospital specialists across its Clinically Integrated Network. To modernize and secure these interactions, Lurie Children’s implemented PH Connect from Proficient Health, a HIPAA‑compliant smartphone messaging platform intended to replace outdated paging systems and enable real‑time voice and text contact.

Proficient Health’s PH Connect streamlined consults, result sharing, admissions processing and patient notifications while preserving patient data during referrals. In its first full year it transmitted more than 3,000 messages involving 35 PCP practices and 32 Lurie divisions, connecting 220+ community pediatricians to nearly 1,100 Lurie providers; response times were under 3 minutes for over 45% of messages and under 25 minutes for over 80%, reducing physician wait times and boosting collaboration across the CIN.
