A Proficient Health Case Study
Albemarle Health, northeastern North Carolina’s largest health and wellness provider, struggled with a paper-driven order process: its 43-person Patient Access team received about 2,900 physician orders per month—mostly by fax—requiring manual retrieval, scanning into the EMR, and filing, which led to lost orders, delays and extra work. To address this, Albemarle became a beta site for Proficient Health’s Proficient Orders solution.
Proficient Health implemented Proficient Orders to automatically convert incoming faxes to electronic images and deliver them via a secure web portal so schedulers and registrars can index orders, schedule procedures and push documents directly into the EMR without printing or rescanning. The result: Albemarle is now virtually paper-free, orders are no longer lost in the fax machine, physician and patient satisfaction improved, staff morale and productivity rose, training was completed in three days instead of a week, and the team has become a regional model as one of the first three sites nationwide using Proficient Orders.
