Public Roadmap Helps GOV.UK to be Transparent

GOV.UK, run by the Government Digital Service, was created in 2009 to consolidate UK government websites into a single, simpler place for public services and information and now attracts about 12 million weekly visits. As the team grew tenfold and stakeholders multiplied across government, they needed a clearer, shareable roadmap that could show work at different levels of detail; their existing static and board-focused tools couldn’t meet those needs or support a public-facing roadmap.

GOV.UK adopted ProductPlan’s hosted roadmap to present initiatives at multiple levels and publish a public roadmap. The switch increased transparency, generated constructive feedback, raised awareness (including interest from prospective hires), and gave 3,000 admin users across 330 organisations a more efficient single source of truth to keep stakeholders aligned and accountable.
