SHARKMARX, a Suffield, Connecticut–based marketplace for landscape products founded by George Beiter and Dan Degan, set out to modernize an industry resistant to online sales by building a reverse auction eMarketplace where buyers specify needs and sellers bid. Their challenge was finding a technology partner that could deliver a SaaS solution with significant customization yet remain simple for end users; they selected ProcurePort and its cloud-hosted reverse auction software plus consulting services to meet those needs.
ProcurePort implemented a customized, cloud-hosted reverse auction platform (delivered through a 14-week/three-month engagement) that included features like a credit-card hold payment system and tailored UX. The ProcurePort solution enabled SHARKMARX to launch in January 2013, earn positive user feedback for ease of use, expand sellers into new markets, deliver lower prices to buyers, and hit all of its first-year milestones.
