ProcessVue rationalises the alarms process at West Burton B power station

EDF Energy's West Burton B gas-fired power station faced a major challenge in managing its process alarm system, which was generating over one million alarms per month and making it difficult for operators to monitor safety-critical processes. To address this, the station worked with vendor ProcessVue to implement its ProcessVue Analyser software as part of an alarm improvement program.

The solution from ProcessVue included the Analyser software for identifying and rationalizing nuisance alarms, followed by the implementation of ProcessVue Guardian, which provided a Master Alarm Database and management tools. This allowed the team to break down the alarm management process into manageable projects. As a result, West Burton B dramatically reduced its monthly alarm load from over one million to under 20,000, achieving EEMUA 191 compliance and giving operators a complete, actionable view of all site alarms.
